Section 2: The Fortune of Hu Village 胡村月令 Translated by…
胡兰成的《今生今世》
Although many have criticised Hu Lancheng for his support of Wang Jingwei and the Japanese during China’s war with Japan, even Hu’s greatest critics respect his inimitable use of the Chinese language.
For this project, we have translated Hu’s exemplary autobiography, This Life, These Times 今生今世. First published in 1958 as a two-volume set in Japan, this book is a fascinating account of Hu’s life, including the political world of the Wang Jingwei government and Hu’s marriage with Eileen Chang.
